Gumi City Opens Urban Oasis Water Playground Early
Four Water Playgrounds Including Gupyung Park to Open Early from June 22, Nine Days Ahead of Schedule
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province will operate water playgrounds at Gupyeong Park (opening for the first time in 2024), Wonho (Munjang-gol) Forest Park, Sandong Mulbit Park, and Bonggok Dabong Park from June 22 to September 1 to provide citizens with cool and pleasant resting areas in preparation for the record-breaking heatwave expected this summer.
The water playgrounds will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed every Monday) and will operate flexibly depending on weather conditions such as rain.
The city will regularly conduct water quality inspections, clean and disinfect the water playgrounds to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among users, and assign safety personnel at each site to prevent accidents.
The Gupyeong Park water playground, opening for the first time this year, was built with a total project cost of 1.65 billion KRW over two years since 2023. The addition of the water playground and adventure play facility (net climbing structure) has transformed the aging park into a new multi-purpose play space.
In the spacious 600㎡ area, seven unique water play facilities, including a combination play structure, have been installed. The adventure play facility (net climbing structure), which measures 19 meters wide, 17 meters long, and 7 meters high, has been created as a friendly space where children can play freely.
Gumi City plans to improve the residential environment and provide citizens with a wide range of cool summer resting spaces by establishing water playgrounds in urban parks near large apartment complexes with high populations. By June 2025, the city will invest an additional 2.5 billion KRW to expand water playgrounds at Sandong Mulbit Park and Sagok Mulkkot Park.
