Gyeongnam Representatives Selected: 86 Participants to Compete in National Sports Festival Sand Arena
Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 18th that it hosted the “105th National Sports Festival Ssireum Gyeongnam Representative Selection Tournament” at the Geochang Sports Park Ssireum Stadium, organized by the Gyeongsangnam-do Ssireum Association and the Geochang County Ssireum Association.
At the Geochang Sports Park Ssireum Arena, organized by the Geochang County Ssireum Association, 86 athletes from the province are participating in fierce competition to secure the right to compete in the 105th National Sports Festival.
View original imageThis tournament saw fierce competition among 86 athletes from within the province, all vying for a spot to participate in the 105th National Sports Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Gimhae from October 11 to 17 for seven days.
As a result of the tournament, a total of 24 athletes were selected as Gyeongnam representatives by weight class, including 7 from the high school division, 7 from the university division, 7 from the general division, and 3 from the women's division. They are expected to compete on the sand of this year’s National Sports Festival.
Gu Inmo, the mayor of Geochang County, said, “I hope that the Gyeongnam representative athletes, who poured their sweat and passion into this tournament, will also dominate the ssireum arena at the National Sports Festival in Gimhae this October and achieve great results.”
Meanwhile, the Geochang County Ssireum Association plans to hold the “1st Geochang County Invitational National Amateur Ssireum Tournament” at Geochang Sports Park in September to promote and expand the base of ssireum and to publicize Geochang County.
