Finland's Visual Components Asia Research Center to Open at Kyungnam University
Gyeongnam Technopark, the First in Asia-Pacific Region
RCK Signs Establishment Agreement with National Assembly Member Choi Hyungdoo
The first Asia-Pacific research center of Finland's Visual Components is expected to be established at Kyungnam University.
On the 12th, Kyungnam University signed a business agreement with Finland's Visual Components (CEO Mikko Urho), RCK, Gyeongnam Technopark, and National Assembly member Choi Hyungdoo at the International Seminar Room for the establishment of the 'Visual Components Asia Research Center'.
Visual Components, a Finnish company, is a strong software enterprise competing with global conglomerates in the fields of virtual commissioning and manufacturing engineering software. Its main clients include Samsung Electronics and Toyota Motor Corporation, and in Korea, RCK has established itself as a key partner company.
Based on this agreement, Kyungnam University will continue various collaborations with each institution as a 'hub for industry-academia-research joint development cooperation'.
First, focusing on the 'Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center', the university will develop core technologies for virtual commissioning using generative AI and make efforts to commercialize these technologies for domestic and overseas markets. In addition, it will jointly foster and supply outstanding talent to help Finland's Visual Components and RCK quickly establish themselves in the Gyeongnam region.
The project by the Ministry of Science and ICT of Gyeongsangnam-do, which is promoting the localization of manufacturing data interworking virtual commissioning technology, will also gain further momentum. Kyungnam University, Gyeongnam Technopark, RCK, ETRI, and LS Electric are jointly participating in this project, and with Visual Components also joining as a strategic partner, the new Asia Research Center is expected to maximize synergy.
Collaboration with Gyeongnam Technopark, the implementing agency for the 'Gyeongnam Digital Innovation Base Project' attracted by Gyeongsangnam-do, will also be strengthened. Efforts will be made to ensure that the Asia Research Center and the Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center become core pillars of the 'digital innovation base'. National Assembly member Choi Hyungdoo will focus on securing and supporting national funding necessary for R&D and commercialization so that the center can be established quickly.
Park Jaekyu, President of Kyungnam University, emphasized, "Since the opening of the Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center, we have received many joint research proposals from Hanwha Systems and fabless companies such as 'Rebellion', which develops NPU-based next-generation AI semiconductor solutions. This indicates the high expectations for the Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center."
He added, "Along with the Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center, the future potential of the Visual Components Asia Research Center will greatly contribute to Kyungnam University's core strategy for bold innovation toward the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30 Project' main designation. I hope that the Visual Components Asia Research Center will become a leading center not only for the region but also for the entire country."
Meanwhile, the center is scheduled to be established in Hanmakan, where the future technologies of Gyeongnam are concentrated, including the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform Global Coding Campus, the Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center, and the Gyeongnam Global Game Center, targeting the second half of this year.
