POSCO Cheongam Foundation Selects High School Students Who Saved Precious Lives as POSCO Heroes
Kim Eun-woo Rescues Man in His 40s Attempting to Jump from Yeonildae Bridge in Pohang
On the 10th, Awarded Posco Heroes Plaque and Scholarship at Pohang Jungang Girls' High School
On the 10th, the POSCO Cheongam Foundation (Chairman Kim Seon-wook) selected Kim Eun-woo, an 18-year-old senior at Pohang Jungang Girls' High School, who saved the life of a man attempting to jump off a bridge, as a POSCO Hero and presented her with a plaque and scholarship.
On May 12th, around 9 p.m., after finishing self-study at an academy and walking home, Kim Eun-woo was crossing the Yeonildae Bridge over the Hyeongsan River in Pohang on foot when she noticed a man in his 40s, Mr. A, trying to climb over the bridge railing to jump into the river.
Kim Eun-woo ran over and held onto Mr. A's leg to prevent him from jumping into the river and reported the situation to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency's 112 Integrated Security Situation Room.
For about three minutes until the police arrived, Kim desperately held onto Mr. A's leg, pleading, "Please live," and thanks to her warm and courageous actions, Mr. A was safely rescued by the arriving police officers.
On the 10th, the POSCO Chungam Foundation selected Eunwoo Kim, who saved a person attempting to jump, as a POSCO Hero and presented her with a plaque and a scholarship.

Kim Eun-woo said, "I was determined to save the man no matter what, so I held onto his leg," and added, "I am really glad he survived."
The POSCO Heroes Fellowship is a program that provides scholarships to heroes who have sacrificed themselves for the nation and social justice or to their children, enabling them to continue their studies stably.

Since 2019, the POSCO Cheongam Foundation has actively sought out public officials and ordinary citizens who serve as social role models to raise social awareness of righteous actions and to create a just society where members help each other even in difficult situations. To date, a total of 98 POSCO Heroes have been selected.
