One Participant Dies During Gunsan International Triathlon Competition
Discovery of a 60s Military Veteran Participating in Triathlon off the Coast
A man in his 60s participating in an international triathlon held in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, died during the race.
According to the Gunsan Coast Guard on the 2nd, at around 7:45 a.m. that day, Mr. A (62) was found unconscious and floating in the sea off Bieungdo, Gunsan City. The organizers used an emergency rescue boat to bring Mr. A ashore and transported him to a hospital, but he ultimately passed away.
A Gunsan Coast Guard official stated, "We have secured CCTV footage and will investigate the circumstances of the participant's death and verify whether there were any issues in the event's operation."
This event, continuing until the 3rd, features athletes challenging the full course at the Saemangeum Seawall area, including swimming (3.8 km), cycling (180.2 km), and running (42.2 km).
