Lee Byung-ho, President of Korea Rural Community Corporation, Inspects Bulgab Reservoir Site in Preparation for Rainy Season
On the 29th, Lee Byung-ho, President of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, visited the Bulgap Reservoir flood control capacity expansion project site in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, to inspect safety management measures and hear about the progress of the project.
The Bulgap Reservoir flood control capacity expansion project, promoted by the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, is a project aimed at preventing large-scale disasters by expanding the existing reservoir's spillway and other facilities to enhance flood discharge capacity. A total of 72.3 billion KRW is being invested, with completion targeted by the end of this year.
The Bulgap Reservoir was constructed based on the probable maximum flood of a 200-year return period, but recent trends of heavy rainfall pose ongoing risks. With the installation of auxiliary spillways and sluice gates through this project, rapid and safe water discharge will be possible, which is expected to greatly contribute to disaster damage prevention.
President Lee emphasized, "The core of safety lies in prevention," and added, "Since more rainfall than usual is expected this summer, I ask that with a sense of mission to protect the lives and safety of the people, thorough and meticulous inspections be conducted until the project's completion to prepare for all possible situations."
