"Sharing a Warm Meal"... Seoul Metro Corporation Supports Homeless Shelter on Anniversary Day
On the 24th and 28th, donated 10 million won for meals and volunteered at two homeless shelters
President Baekho: "We will continue various social contribution activities, including helping hands in rural sister villages"
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced that to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway and the company’s founding day on May 31, it sponsored meal expenses at two homeless shelters and conducted meal distribution volunteer activities together with its executives and employees.
The purpose was to share a warm meal with homeless people, a marginalized group in the local community, as a symbolic birthday meal.
On the 24th, the company visited the ‘Happy World Welfare Center’ located in Amsa-dong, Gangdong-gu, and provided a sponsorship of 5 million won. Then, on the 28th, it delivered another 5 million won in sponsorship to the ‘Warm Filling Center’ located in Dongja-dong, Yongsan-gu.
The sponsorship funds will be used to support meals for the homeless. The sponsorship was linked to a plogging challenge. Since April 22, citizens and company employees have participated together in plogging activities such as picking up trash, and on May 16, they achieved the certification goal of 5,000 cases ahead of schedule.
On the 28th, at the ‘Warm Filling Center,’ President Baek Ho and executives and employees also had a meaningful time participating in lunch meal distribution volunteer work.
As part of the founding anniversary events, the company also held a ‘Sharing Love Bread’ activity on the 11th. Forty executives, employees, and their families, with the help of baking experts, made bread themselves at two Korean Red Cross bread sharing centers and provided it as meals and snacks to neighbors in the local community who are in difficult circumstances.
Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “We will continue to carry out various social contribution activities, including support for vulnerable groups and marginalized neighbors in the local community, helping hands in rural sister villages, and sponsorship of educational welfare projects for children from low-income families, to fulfill our social responsibility as a public enterprise.”
