Jeju Coast Guard Conducts Joint Cleanup Activity at Hwabuk Port to Commemorate Sea Day
Jeju Coast Guard Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 22nd that it conducted a joint public-private underwater and coastal cleanup activity and blue carbon protection campaign with the public at Hwabuk Port in Jeju City to commemorate the 29th Sea Day (May 31 annually).

Co-hosted by Jeju Coast Guard Station and the Jeju Headquarters of the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, and carried out in collaboration with POSCO E&C, a social value enterprise, this event saw the participation of about 200 people from 14 local institutions, organizations, and businesses including Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the National Institute of Fisheries Science, all working together to create a clean Jeju sea.
The main activities included ▲ collecting kelp and abandoned waste along the coast within the harbor ▲ seaweed (Gamtae seed) transplantation in the sea forest and drone demonstration spraying of laver spore solution as part of carbon sink creation projects contributing to carbon reduction policies, as well as ▲ a marine environment photo exhibition and marine pollution prevention education to raise public awareness of marine environmental protection.
A Jeju Coast Guard official stated, “We will continue to take the lead in protecting and creating a clean Jeju sea together with the public,” and added, “We hope for the active interest and participation of the public.”
