KOSPI Ends Lower on Net Selling by Foreign and Institutional Investors... HLB Group Stocks Hit Multiple Lower Limits
The KOSPI closed lower at the 2720 level due to net selling by foreigners and institutions. HLB group stocks all hit the lower limit after failing to clear the hurdle for new drug approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
On the 17th, the KOSPI closed at 2,724.62, down 28.38 points (1.03%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals were net buyers with 720.3 billion KRW. In contrast, foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 597.6 billion KRW and 149.2 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, food and beverages rose 4.41%. In addition, electric and gas utilities, non-metallic minerals, and pharmaceuticals closed up within 1%. On the other hand, insurance fell 2.89%, and machinery dropped 2.56%. Construction, finance, and manufacturing sectors also declined by more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 77,400 KRW, down 800 KRW (1.02%) from the previous trading day. SK Hynix fell 1.61%. Except for Samsung Biologics, which recorded a slight gain, most of the top market cap stocks closed lower.
On this day’s KOSPI, Samhwa Paints and Samyang Foods hit the upper limit, with 307 stocks rising, while HLB Global hit the lower limit, causing 577 stocks to fall. Forty-nine stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 855.06, down 15.31 points (1.76%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, foreigners were net sellers of 143.5 billion KRW. Meanwhile, individuals and institutions were net buyers of 38.9 billion KRW and 125.6 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, food and tobacco rose 1.44%. In contrast, pharmaceuticals fell 7.37%. Semiconductors, distribution, software, and textiles/apparel also declined by more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 212,500 KRW, down 3,500 KRW (1.62%) from the previous trading day. EcoPro fell 1.09%. Celltrion Pharm and EO Technics also dropped more than 2%. On the other hand, Alteogen rose 6.52%, and Samchundang Pharm closed up 1.17%.

On the KOSDAQ, four stocks including S&D and EO Flow hit the upper limit, with 496 stocks rising. In contrast, seven HLB group stocks listed on the KOSDAQ hit the lower limit, causing 1,045 stocks to fall, while 97 stocks closed unchanged.
