Jungnang-gu Completes All Preparations for Strong Flood and Wind Disaster Defense
Operation of Comprehensive Flood and Wind Disaster Measures from May 15 to October 15
Pre-inspection Completed for 187 Sites Including Disaster Prevention Facilities and Flood-Prone Areas
Establishment of Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and Operation of Companion Partners to Build a Tight Safety Network
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has prepared a 'Comprehensive Summer Flood and Wind Disaster Countermeasure Plan' to minimize damage from flood and wind disasters in the upcoming summer season.
The district has designated the period from the 15th of this month to October 15th as the comprehensive disaster countermeasure period and plans to make every effort to prevent damage.
Before establishing the comprehensive plan, the district conducted two inspections of 187 disaster prevention facilities and flood-vulnerable areas, including rainwater pumping stations, sluice gates, rivers, steep slopes, retaining walls, and both public and private construction sites. They identified and completed measures for a total of 16 maintenance items, such as the maintenance of temporary structures at construction sites and the framework of outdoor advertisements.
During the countermeasure period, a Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters will be established and operated, consisting of District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi as the head, 13 task forces, and 39 working departments. This is to thoroughly manage and monitor the status of various flood and wind disaster prevention facilities and to respond promptly in case of damage.
On the morning of the 14th, before the operation of the countermeasure period, an opening ceremony for the Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters was held. Attending the ceremony, District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi urged, “In the event of an emergency, we will promptly activate the countermeasure headquarters and concentrate all administrative power on securing the safety of residents.”
This year, a ‘Companion Partner’ program will also be operated to assist disaster-vulnerable households such as semi-basement homes. Composed of about 50 public officials and residents, it will support the swift evacuation of vulnerable households in case of flooding damage.
Additionally, 55 underground households with a history of flooding will be linked one-on-one with assigned public officials to provide weather updates and evacuation support.
Furthermore, dredging and cleaning of rivers, sewers, and rainwater inlets have been completed, and continuous maintenance will be carried out during the flood and wind disaster countermeasure period to lead damage prevention efforts.
Moreover, to enable rapid initial response during heavy rain, road water level gauges have been installed on major roads, and manhole fall prevention facilities are continuously being increased in areas with high pedestrian traffic to prevent casualties.
