The pedestrian signal automatic extension system recognizes pedestrians who have not crossed the road within the pedestrian signal time at the crosswalk and automatically extends the pedestrian signal time within the allowed range (5 to 10 seconds). This system was established to support the safe crossing of vulnerable road users such as people with disabilities, children, and the elderly.
The county is conducting a pilot installation and operation at three locations: the back gate of Dong Elementary School, the intersection near Gangjin-eup Office, and the Forest Cooperative intersection. If the system proves effective after operation, it plans to gradually introduce it to crosswalks with many pedestrians and school zones.
