Gyeonggi-do 'School-Outside Youth' 55.6% "Preparing for GED and College Admission"
More than half of the 'out-of-school youth' in Gyeonggi-do are preparing for academic pursuits such as the qualification exam or university admission, according to a survey.
On the 8th, Gyeonggi-do held the '2024 Gyeonggi-do Out-of-School Youth Policy Forum' at the Gwanggyo Business Center (Gyeonggi XR Center) and announced the results of the '2023 Gyeonggi-do Out-of-School Youth Career and Employment Status Survey Research,' which included these findings.
According to the survey results, the largest group, 55.6%, are academically focused, preparing for qualification exams or university admission. This was followed by 29.9% who are preparing for both academics and employment (hybrid type), 9.0% who are not preparing for anything (unemployed type), and 5.5% who are preparing for employment or entrepreneurship (employment type).
Regarding the services needed by out-of-school youth in the province, among career and learning support services, learning counseling and learning support (49.6%) and provision of admission information (38.0%) were the most requested. Among job and independence support services, support for obtaining certifications (54.3%) and workplace experience (38.9%) were prominent.
Among health management services, support for healthy eating and meal provision accounted for 62.0%, and health checkups accounted for 37.1%. Among activity and economic support services, cultural and artistic experiences and leisure activities were 42.1%, and economic support was 41.6%.
Among basic education services, there was high demand for economic and financial education (57.2%) and rights education (34.7%).
Hosted by Gyeonggi-do and organized by the Gyeonggi-do Out-of-School Youth Support Center, this forum was held to review the current status and establish differentiated support strategies for career and employment support considering the characteristics of out-of-school youth in Gyeonggi-do.

Ko Young-mi, Director of the Youth Division of Gyeonggi-do, said, "The forum provided an opportunity to discuss the direction of career and independence support for out-of-school youth in Gyeonggi-do," adding, "We will continue to do our best to support the healthy growth of out-of-school youth in cooperation with the Gyeonggi-do Out-of-School Youth Support Center."
