The support targets have also been expanded from the families of war dead, deceased, wounded, and disabled veterans to include ‘war dead, deceased, wounded, and disabled veterans,’ ‘those awarded for military merit and national service,’ and ‘May 18 Democratic Movement merit recipients’ themselves or their families.
Additionally, the city independently holds commemorative events on March 1st, the May 18 Democratic Movement, Memorial Day, and the Korean War Day (June 25) to honor the spirits of patriotic martyrs and to commemorate patriotism and sacrifice.
Special efforts are made to respect and honor veterans, such as seating veterans and their families in the front rows at memorial ceremonies.
Shin Gyeong-eop, head of the Naju branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, said, “We are grateful for the increase in the veteran allowance, which does not forget the noble sacrifice of veterans. It will be a great help to veterans and their families.”
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae stated, “We solemnly honor the noble spirit of veterans who dedicated themselves to the country, and hope that their families can live in Naju with pride. We will continue to do our best to improve the welfare of national merit recipients and their families.”
