The National Institute of Biological Resources in Honam Region under the Ministry of Environment (Director Ryu Tae-cheol) announced on the 29th that the "Korean Island Greenhouse," where you can encounter 153 species of island and coastal plants of Korea, will open on the 3rd of next month to raise awareness of island and coastal biodiversity and the importance of biological resource conservation.
The National Institute of Biological Resources in Honam Region, a specialized research institution for island and coastal biological resources, built the island greenhouse to provide a space where the general public can directly observe and experience the growth of plants while conducting related research and utilization.

The Korean Island Greenhouse is located in the outdoor garden of the resource center in Gohado, Mokpo City, and was built with a total floor area of 1,465㎡ (exhibition area 934㎡). It is designed to be conveniently accessible for both non-disabled and disabled visitors. Additionally, a rest area inspired by traditional Korean hanok architecture is provided, allowing families to enjoy a comfortable visit.
Meanwhile, various events have been prepared for visitors to coincide with the opening of the Korean Island Greenhouse. On Children's Day, May 4th and 5th, magic shows and soap bubble shows will be held on the lawn in front of the greenhouse. Until July, a special exhibition titled "Polar Bears Visiting the Greenhouse" will be held to raise awareness of the climate crisis through stories about polar bears living in cold regions.
