Subway Lines 4 and 7 Increase Train Operations During Rush Hours... Starting from the 1st of Next Month
During Morning Rush Hour on Line 4, Line 7 is Busy During Evening Rush Hour
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced on the 29th that starting from the first train on the 1st of next month, it will increase the number of train operations by two each on subway lines 4 and 7 during peak commuting hours to alleviate congestion on trains and platforms.
Line 4 will add two trains during the morning rush hour, and Line 7 will add two trains during the evening rush hour. For Line 4, one additional train set will be added this time to reduce congestion. The Metro expects the maximum congestion rate on Line 4 to decrease from 150.1% to 135.1% with this increase.
○ This increase is based on the congestion survey results from March this year. The section with the highest congestion on Line 4 is between Seongsin Women’s University Station and Hansung University Station (08:00~08:30), with a congestion rate of 150.1%.
□ For Line 7, with this increase, the maximum congestion rate is expected to drop from 157% to 134.6%. According to the congestion survey results from last March, the section with the highest congestion on Line 7 is between Gasan Digital Complex Station and Cheolsan Station (18:00~18:30), with a congestion rate of 157%.
Along with this, the Metro and Seoul City are securing national funding to add three train sets on Line 4 and one train set on Line 7. By increasing and adding trains, they aim to manage the train congestion on the most crowded Lines 4 and 7 to below 150%, ensuring passenger convenience at all times.
□ Additionally, the Metro announced that it is currently undertaking a project to develop a station and train congestion measurement and operation support system using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve congestion. Furthermore, after completing 17 station congestion improvement projects last year, including structural improvements and flow separation, they are currently conducting basic and detailed design work for additional transfer stair installations.
