'Market Protecting Jobs for Disabled People' Held at Gwangsan-gu Office, Gwangju
On the 25th, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, held a market on the first floor of the district office where people with disabilities working at 11 local vocational rehabilitation facilities directly promoted, exhibited, and sold products they made to citizens.
This event is part of activities throughout April to improve awareness of disabilities and to promote exchange and empathy between people with and without disabilities, in celebration of the 44th Disability Day (April 20). The purpose is to encourage consumption that protects valuable jobs for people with severe disabilities.
At the market, various products made directly by people with disabilities were showcased, including gloves, envelopes, eco-friendly household items, candles, and Gwangju-style rice balls.
Choi Gijun, the head of Geumok Protective Workshop, said, “It is meaningful to have a place where products and services produced through the participation and labor of people with disabilities are introduced to citizens.”

A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “We will continue various efforts such as improving social awareness, enhancing the quality of products made by people with disabilities, and activating the use of products made by people with severe disabilities so that many citizens participate in valuable consumption.”
