Starting May 2, Weekly Transparent PET Bottle Reward Program Activities Begin Every Thursday in All Neighborhoods
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a launch ceremony for the ‘Resource Circulation Club’ members on the 19th to promote the spread of a proper recycling disposal culture.
In 2022, the district became the first autonomous district in Seoul to form a resident-led ‘Resource Circulation Club,’ striving to spread a culture where residents themselves practice recycling and waste separation.
In particular, the district’s ‘Resource Circulation Club’ is promoting the ‘Transparent PET Bottle Reward System (Eco Tomorrow)’ activity, which exchanges transparent PET bottles for designated waste bags every Thursday. As the sessions continue, resident participation and PET bottle collection volumes have increased, leading to successful operation. Last year alone, 71 tons of transparent PET bottles were collected.
This year, about 250 members of the Resource Circulation Club were recruited, and a launch ceremony was held with the attendance of Gwanak District Mayor Park Jun-hee and club members to successfully promote the Eco Tomorrow project.
At the launch ceremony, ▲ last year’s performance report ▲ presentation of best practices ▲ awarding of certificates of commendation ▲ and ‘Resource Circulation Education’ to strengthen members’ capabilities were conducted.
In particular, on this day, Mayor Park Jun-hee participated in the ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge’ with the Resource Circulation Club members, demonstrating leadership in reducing plastic usage.
The ‘Bye Bye Plastic Challenge,’ promoted by the Ministry of Environment, is a campaign where participants pledge to reduce plastic in daily life and practice responsible consumption while making a hand-waving gesture with both hands.
This year as well, the district will restart the ‘Transparent PET Bottle Reward System’ activity, exchanging designated waste bags for collected transparent PET bottles together with the ‘Resource Circulation Club.’
The activity will be held every Thursday from 2 PM to 4 PM at 21 community service centers in the district from May 2 to November 28 (not operating in July and August).
