Yellen, U.S. Treasury Secretary, Visits China Again After 9 Months
Meeting Scheduled with Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen began her five-day visit to China on the 4th.
State-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported that Secretary Yellen arrived in Guangzhou, southern China, in the afternoon. This marks her first visit to China in nine months since July last year, and she will stay until the 9th of this month.
During this visit, Secretary Yellen is expected to urge China to treat American workers and businesses fairly. The U.S. Treasury Department stated that she will also pressure China to improve unfair trade practices.
Additionally, she plans to promote expanded cooperation with China in areas such as combating illegal finance, strengthening financial stability, addressing climate change, and alleviating debt burdens in developing countries.
On the second day of her visit, the 5th, Secretary Yellen will meet with economic experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the Chinese economy. She will have a meeting with Wang Weizhong, Governor of Guangdong Province, and deliver a speech on bilateral economic relations at an event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in China. After holding talks with He Lifeng, Vice Premier of the State Council and a key official in China's economic sector, from the 5th to the 6th, she will move to Beijing.

On the 7th, she will meet with professors and students at Peking University, followed by a meeting with Lan Foan, Minister of Finance. On the 8th, she will meet Liu He, former Vice Premier of the State Council who led the U.S.-China economic and trade negotiations during Xi Jinping’s second term, and Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People’s Bank of China, the central bank, before holding a press conference related to this visit.
