Kim Ikang, Gwangju Seo-gu Mayor, Receives 'Integrity Public Official Award'

Kim Ikang, head of Seo-gu Office in Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 29th that he received the Integrity Public Official Award from the Anti-Corruption National Movement Gwangju Federation under the jurisdiction of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in recognition of his contribution to spreading a culture of integrity in the public sector.

The Anti-Corruption National Movement Gwangju Federation held an ‘Integrity Practice Resolution Meeting’ on the 28th at J Art Wedding Hall, attended by over 300 officials from related organizations. At this event, Kim, who has taken the lead in creating an anti-corruption and transparent society in the public sector, medical, and corporate fields, along with Jeong Chanyeong, director of Dongmyeong Hospital, and Gu Jegil, director of Sejong Nursing Hospital, received the Integrity Public Official Award, Integrity Medical Professional Award, and Integrity Entrepreneur Award, respectively.

Kim established active communication channels such as ‘Baro Munja Harangkke,’ a direct text messaging phone to the district head, and the field-centered ‘My Side Seo-gu Office’ to secure administrative trust in areas with high civil complaint occurrences, including permits and taxation.

Furthermore, to eradicate corrupt practices, he led the establishment of an integrity culture within the public sector by implementing measures such as ▲ issuing integrity alerts and corruption evacuation orders ▲ activities of the Integrity Keeper Group and integrity campaigns to strengthen self-purification functions ▲ integrity evaluations of senior public officials, enabling civil servants to practice anti-corruption and integrity in their daily lives. As a result, Seo-gu achieved a grade 2 in the 2023 comprehensive public institution integrity evaluation conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, rising two levels from grade 4 last year.

Kim said, “This award was possible thanks to the efforts of all Seo-gu Office public officials for integrity,” adding, “I will continue to strive to create a transparent Gwangju and an honest Seo-gu where everyone, regardless of wealth or connections, can stand in line equally and live fairly.”
