Campaign Headquarters Leaders of Candidate Bae Jong-ho Declare Support for Candidate Lee Yoon-seok
Democratic Party Primary Fails to Reflect Citizens' Opinions... "We Cannot Send Incompetent Incumbent Lawmakers Back to the National Assembly"
Independent preliminary candidate Lee Yun-seok held a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on the 22nd in the Citizens' Room of Mokpo City Council together with the campaign headquarters leaders of preliminary candidate Bae Jong-ho, who suffered defeat in the Democratic Party primary, and declared that he would judge the incompetent incumbent lawmaker in the upcoming general election.
Former Mokpo City Council member Noh Kyung-yoon and other campaign headquarters leaders of Bae Jong-ho stated in a position paper, “In the Democratic Party primary, we pointed out the problem of the primary system that does not properly reflect the will of the citizens and demanded a complete citizen primary,” adding, “This was because there was a reasonable suspicion that the candidate Kim Won-i’s side, who has a history of leaking information of thousands of party members (membership applications), would monopolize the party members’ list in the primary.”

They said, “We cannot send the incompetent incumbent lawmaker back to the National Assembly,” and expressed their support for preliminary candidate Lee Yun-seok, who left the Democratic Party and is running as an independent.
Then, preliminary candidate Lee Yun-seok, who took the podium, expressed gratitude to the campaign headquarters leaders and said, “The very fact that preliminary candidate Bae Jong-ho suffered defeat proves that the current Democratic Party is undemocratic, unfair, and irrational,” adding, “After being elected, I will return to the Democratic Party and reform it into a working party, a party that knows how to work, and a competent party.”
He also emphasized once again the need to judge the incumbent lawmaker, saying, “The Mokpo Democratic Party and the incumbent National Assembly member of Mokpo City must take responsibility for the many citizens’ questions about what they have done in the past four years.”
Meanwhile, preliminary candidate Lee Yun-seok is a political science Ph.D. who served as a two-term National Assembly member representing Sinan and Muan and also served as a university president. He also served as the head of the Democratic Party’s central organization headquarters.
