The Culinary Academy Awards '2024 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants' Held in Seoul
The '2024 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants' event, known as the Academy Awards of the culinary world, will be held in Seoul from the 23rd to the 27th of this month, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 21st.
While the Michelin Guide is a guidebook introducing excellent restaurants by city, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants compiles and publishes rankings of restaurants in the Asia region.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained, "Asia's 50 Best Restaurants is organized by the UK media company William Reed, which has selected the top 50 restaurants in Asia since 2013 through votes from global culinary opinion leaders," adding, "It is called the Academy Awards of the culinary world and is recognized for its authority in global restaurant evaluations."
At this event, alongside the awards ceremony, discussions on hot topics in the culinary industry will be held during the 'Best50Talk,' featuring debates on Korean regional foods passed down by word of mouth, Korean noodle dishes, and fermentation culture as discussed by Asian chefs. Additionally, a collaboration dining event called 'Signature Session,' where outstanding chefs from Seoul and chefs from across Asia come together, is planned.
Taking this event as an opportunity to gather global culinary opinion leaders in Korea, a Korean food workshop will be conducted to explain and provide hands-on experiences of diverse ingredients and food cultures such as Korean fermented foods, beef butchery culture, and temple cuisine.

Yang Ju-pil, Food Industry Policy Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "Hosting the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event symbolically represents the advancement of domestic food standards," and added, "We expect that Korea, as the host country, will strengthen its position as a world-class culinary tourism destination and provide new motivation opportunities for domestic dining industry stakeholders and young chefs for the development of Korean cuisine and the dining industry."
