Hwang Ui-jo's Sister-in-Law Accused of 'Video Distribution' Appeals 3-Year Prison Sentence in First Trial
Prosecution Appeals on the 18th
Hwang Ui-jo (32), a soccer player, filed an appeal against the first trial's sentence of 3 years in prison given to his sister-in-law Lee Mo, who was convicted of distributing sexual intercourse footage of Hwang and blackmailing him.
According to the legal community on the 20th, Lee's side submitted an appeal to the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 31 (Chief Judge Park Jun-seok) the day before. The prosecution had previously submitted an appeal on the 18th.
Lee was prosecuted on charges of claiming to be Hwang's ex-girlfriend last June, sharing photos and sexual videos of Hwang and other women on SNS (social networking services), and blackmailing Hwang.
At the beginning of the trial, Lee denied the charges by mentioning the possibility of hacking the temporary accommodation's internet router, but later changed her attitude by submitting a letter of remorse admitting to the crime. It is known that Lee deposited 20 million won as a criminal bond to the court on the 13th, one day before the sentencing.
The first trial court sentenced her to 3 years in prison on the 14th, which was lower than the prosecution's requested sentence of 4 years.

On the 18th, the prosecution stated the reason for the appeal, saying, "The victims' sexual videos were widely distributed, causing irreparable damage, and considering that the victims are pleading for severe punishment, we judge that the first trial's sentence is too light."
