Jindo-gun's 'Jindo Saturday Folk Travel 1000th Special Performance' Successfully Concluded

Attempting Convergence with Various Fields Based on Traditional Folk Culture and Arts

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do successfully concluded the 1000th special performance of the Jindo Saturday Folk Travel under the theme "From the Beginning to Eternal Light," receiving enthusiastic applause from numerous spectators.

According to the county on the 20th, the special performance began with the Gilnori (procession) by the Sopo Girl Gun Nongak Preservation Society, followed by performances including Gwangdae Ga, Emae Arirang (Heunggre Taryeong), Cheongung, Taepyeongso Sinawi with young traditional musicians from Jindo Gugak High School, a joint performance of three types of Jindo Buknori, a one-act musical drama of Jindo Arirang, media percussion performances, and Ganggangsullae dance.

Especially after the performance, about 600 performers and audience members gathered on the outdoor stage to dance and mingle together in a grand Daedongnori (community play), marking the final stage.

With this 1000th special performance as a milestone, Jindo Saturday Folk Travel is expected to lead a new era of cultural prosperity in Jindo by attempting convergence and fusion across various fields based on Jindo's folk culture and arts.

County Governor Kim Hee-su stated, “We will continue to develop the Saturday Folk Travel so that it can establish itself as a symbol of traditional performing arts representing Jindo, a special district for folk culture and arts in Korea.”

Meanwhile, the Jindo Saturday Folk Travel performances, which have been attended by 394,856 people to date, began their first show on April 1, 1997. For 28 years, they have been held every Saturday at 2 p.m. from March to the end of the year at the Jindo Local Culture Center, offering various attractions to promote Jindo-gun’s excellent culture and arts.
