Ulsan City Sees Remarkable Results from Boosting Technology Transfer and Commercialization
Discovered 49 Demand Technologies and Signed 36 Technology Transfer Contracts
Achieved 1.61 Billion KRW in Technology Transfers, Satisfaction Increased
Ulsan City’s “Technology Transaction Promotion Network Project,” aimed at facilitating technology transfer and commercialization for local companies, has shown results such as increased corporate sales and expanded employment.
Led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, this project is operated by a consortium formed between Ulsan Technopark and private technology transaction institutions, supporting growth through discovering demand technologies, technology transfer, and technology commercialization for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies.
Through this project, Ulsan City identified 49 demand technologies last year, signed 36 technology transfer contracts with a total transfer amount of 1.61 billion KRW, commercialized 23 technologies, and achieved a technology transfer success rate of 73%.
A satisfaction survey of supported companies rated the project 9.81 out of 10, indicating high corporate satisfaction.
Ulsan City, together with Ulsan Technopark, is strengthening support by discovering technology demand companies and excellent supply technologies to revitalize local technology transfer and commercialization, and by holding technology transfer briefings and consultation meetings.
One recent case involved Pharos Marine Co., Ltd., a developer of small and medium-sized ship electric propulsion systems, which was supported to receive technology transfers from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and Kunsan National University for structural analysis technology to advance rim-driven thrusters and for developing high-strength electric outboard motors with corrosion and wear resistance.
Through this, the company achieved results including the creation of 5 new jobs, securing 8 intellectual property rights, selection for the Materials, Parts, and Equipment Startup 100, selection for the Technology Innovation Development Project (TIPS), and attracting investment from accelerators (ACs).
Additionally, SB Solution Co., Ltd., a developer of non-invasive blood glucose meters, was supported to commercialize technology for blood glucose measurement devices and methods transferred from Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology.
