Gyeonggi-do to Invest 20.5 Billion KRW This Year to Revitalize Returning to Fishing and Rural Migration
Gyeonggi Province is launching a new project this year to provide temporary housing for those aspiring to settle in fishing villages through return-to-fishing and return-to-farming initiatives. Additionally, the settlement support fund for young fishermen in the early stages of starting a business will be expanded from 3 to 6 recipients.
On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has prepared the "2024 Gyeonggi Province Return-to-Fishing and Return-to-Farming Support Implementation Plan" and will invest a budget of 20.5 billion KRW.
To attract young and talented new fishermen, expand the population returning to fishing and farming, and revitalize fishing villages this year, Gyeonggi Province will promote 11 tasks across four areas: ▲ stable settlement support in fishing villages ▲ strengthening promotion of return-to-fishing and return-to-farming ▲ customized support for return-to-fishing and return-to-farming ▲ creating desirable fishing villages to live in.
First, to support stable settlement in fishing villages, Gyeonggi Province plans to establish "Return-to-Fishing Houses" and will provide two mobile homes in Hwaseong City for those aspiring to return to fishing and farming to learn fisheries and aquaculture.
Furthermore, to support stable settlement in fishing villages, the settlement support fund for young fishermen in the early stages of starting a business will be expanded from 3 recipients last year to 6 this year.
In addition, for urban residents wishing to become fishermen, a loan support program will provide up to 300 million KRW per person for startup capital and 75 million KRW for housing purchase funds at an annual interest rate of 1.5%.
Separately, to enhance the public value of fishing villages and protect marine resources, Gyeonggi Province plans to implement the Fisheries Public Interest Direct Payment System and promote opportunity income for farmers and fishermen, aiming for introduction in the fourth quarter (October to December) of this year.
Since 2022, Gyeonggi Province has been helping those aspiring to return to fishing and farming to settle by allowing them to stay directly in fishing villages and receive technical education through the Return-to-Fishing School.
