"Sharing a Precious Meal"... Yeongdeungpo-gu Operates 'Low-Income Elderly Companion Restaurant'
18 Companion Restaurants... Expanded Support Linked to 'Low-Income Senior Meal Support' Program
For Low-Income Seniors Aged 60 and Over... Up to 8,000 KRW per Meal, 5 Times a Week
Offering a Wide Range of Meals Including Korean, Western, and Chinese Cuisine
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is promoting the ‘Low-Income Elderly Companion Restaurant’ project to prevent meal deprivation among low-income elderly citizens.
This project provides meal cards to low-income elderly individuals, including those living alone, who are struggling financially, allowing them to use the cards at designated companion restaurants within the district to have meals.
The meal card can be used up to 5 times a week, with a maximum of 8,000 KRW per meal. With one card, users can choose from Korean, Western, or Chinese cuisine to enjoy a variety of meals according to their taste.
The support targets elderly individuals aged 60 or older who are on the waiting list for the ‘Low-Income Elderly Meal Support Project’ and wish to use the companion restaurants.
The selection criteria for beneficiaries are ▲ those who have been on the waiting list for a long time after applying for the meal support project ▲ those recognized as being in urgent risk of meal deprivation. Once selected as a companion restaurant user, the individual will be removed from the waiting lists of other previously applied projects.
Currently, there are a total of 18 designated companion restaurants in the district, including ‘Insaeng 100 Ban’ restaurant located in Dangsan 1-dong. Elderly individuals wishing to receive a card and restaurants wishing to participate in the project can visit their nearest community service center at any time to apply and receive consultation.
In addition, the district operates various meal support projects to prevent meal deprivation among the elderly. Free meals are provided to low-income elderly aged 65 and older (60 and older for senior restaurants) through senior restaurants, lunchbox delivery, and side dish delivery services.
