View original imageTo commemorate the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, district offices across Seoul are holding various commemorative events centered around significant sites of the independence movement.
In Seodaemun-gu, where the Seodaemun Prison History Hall and the Independence Gate are located, the event "Seodaemun, 1919 The Shout of That Day" will be held around Seodaemun Independence Park on March 1st and 2nd.
On the 1st, at the commemorative stage inside the Seodaemun Prison History Hall, there will be reenactment performances by actors portraying independence activists, performances by the Children's History Choir, readings of the March 1st Independence Declaration, and three cheers of "Manse." A citizens' Manse march will proceed along a roughly 350-meter route to the Independence Gate. In the afternoon of March 1st, a March 1st commemorative concert will be held at the Uijeongwon Hall of the Provisional Government Memorial Hall. On the 2nd, an academic symposium titled "The Historicity and Development Plans of the Former Seodaemun Prison Area" will take place at Uijeongwon Hall.
On both the 1st and 2nd, various programs such as "Making My Taegeukgi Tree" and March 1st face painting will be held at Independence Park. Additionally, the Seodaemun Prison History Hall will be open free of charge for one day on March 1st.
At Tapgol Park in Jongno, where the independence declaration was read during the March 1st Movement, a commemorative ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., the time when the cry of "Long live Korean independence" echoed. Representatives from seven major religious groups including Buddhism, Protestantism, Confucianism, Won Buddhism, Cheondogyo, and ethnic religions, as well as the president of the Liberation Association, will attend the event.

On the 1st, Jung-gu will invite about 100 residents to the March 1st Independence Movement Memorial Tower near the National Theater to hold a March 1st commemorative ceremony and visit memorial facilities. During the ceremony, students from Jung-gu, heads of veterans' organizations, and Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, will read the Independence Declaration, then raise Taegeukgi flags and shout three cheers of "Manse" together with the residents. Participants will march to the statues of martyr Yu Gwan-sun and martyr Lee Jun, as well as the Paris Declaration Monument of the Korean Confucian Independence Movement.
