GS25 "Sommelier-Selected 'Wine of the Month'... New World Products Show Strength"
Sommelier 16 Types Selected, 14 Types Are 'Sindaeryuk'
Top-tier sommeliers in Korea gathered at convenience stores.
GS Retail, which operates the convenience store GS25, announced on the 27th that on the 31st of last month, it invited 10 nationally recognized sommeliers to the GS Retail headquarters located in Yeoksam-dong to conduct a blind test event to select the ‘Jungkkyeokmat! GS25 Pick Wine of the Month’ (Wine of the Month), and will begin related sales starting next month.
At the event, 10 famous domestic sommeliers participated in wine tasting evaluations, including Jung Habong, known as Korea’s first national sommelier and Senior Vice President of the Korea International Sommelier Association, and Yoo Seungmin, Senior Sommelier at InterContinental Parnas Hotel who won the 2019 Asia Best Sommelier Award.
The eight red wines finally selected based on the average scores given by the sommeliers will be introduced as the ‘GS25 March Wine of the Month,’ and the eight white wines will be introduced as the ‘GS25 April Wine of the Month.’
The evaluation included a total of 64 wines priced under 50,000 KRW, with 14 New World wines (7 red, 7 white) and 2 European wines (1 red, 1 white) ultimately selected, showing results similar to the famous 1976 “Judgment of Paris” tasting event where American wines surpassed traditional French wines.
The selected red wine that ranked first with a total score of 913 points was the overwhelmingly high-quality Montes Alpha Black Cabernet Sauvignon, and New World wines such as Albadomus, known for its high Robert Parker scores, and Diablo Black Cabernet Sauvignon, the top of the Diablo series, accounted for 7 of the final 8 selected wines.

GS25 Liquor Team MD Kang Solbin said, “Having nationally representative sommeliers gather in one place to select recommended wines is a symbolic event showing GS25’s sincerity in providing differentiated value to wine enthusiasts,” adding, “The recommended white wine products scheduled for April will also be very interesting.”
