Democratic Party Gwangju Seo-gu Eul Confirmed for '3-Person Primary' Not 'Strategic Nomination'
Kim Kyung-man, Kim Kwang-jin, Yang Bu-nam... No Runoff Despite No Majority Vote in Candidate Selection
The candidate lineup for the Democratic Party primary in 8 electoral districts of Gwangju has been finalized.
The Democratic Party's Strategic Nomination Management Committee announced the results of its 4th meeting on the 26th and decided that the Seo-gu (Eul) district of Gwangju Metropolitan City, which had been designated as a strategic electoral district, will hold a '3-person primary' instead of a strategic nomination.

The primary will be conducted 100% through a public participation primary excluding party members. Even if no candidate receives a majority of votes, the nominated candidate will be confirmed without a runoff.
Seo-gu (Eul) was the last district among the Democratic Party's strategic electoral districts where the primary or strategic nomination had not been announced. This led to many speculations about new candidate strategic nominations and single-candidate nominations. Meanwhile, preliminary candidates strongly opposed strategic nominations.
With the confirmation of the primary candidates for Seo-gu (Eul) on this day, the candidate lineups for all 8 districts have been completed.
Previously, preliminary candidates Jeong Jin-wook, Jeong Jun-ho, and Jeon Jin-sook secured their spots in the general election by winning in Dong-gu Nam-gu (Gap) and Buk-gu (Gap) and (Eul), respectively.
Primaries will be held from this day until the 28th in two districts: Dong-gu Nam-gu (Eul), where current Representative Lee Byung-hoon and former Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Ahn Do-gul face off, and Gwangsan-gu (Eul), a three-way contest among current Representative Min Hyung-bae, former spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Sung-jin, and former senior administrative officer at the Blue House Jeong Jae-hyuk.
