Jeong Junho Preliminary Candidate, First Official Schedule After Passing Democratic Party Primary: '5·18 Memorial Visit'
Jeong Junho, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Buk-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City, visited the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery on the 22nd to pay respects and pledge victory in the general election.
Visiting the 5·18 Democratic Cemetery as his first official activity after passing the primary, Jeong left a message in the guestbook saying, "Honoring the spirits of the fallen, once again, democracy! We will start the future of Honam politics."
Together with Moon Sangpil, the standing election committee chairman, and about 30 supporters, he offered flowers and incense at the memorial tower, commemorated the victims, and visited the grave of the late lawyer Hong Namsun, who dedicated his life to human rights and the democratization movement.
Jeong Junho, who is also the secretary-general of the Hong Namsun Lawyer Memorial Project Association, stated, "The task that the May spirits desire most is 'again, democracy,'" adding, "As the only young candidate in Gwangju, I will newly start the future of Honam politics."
He continued, "Humbly listening to the will of Gwangju citizens and engraving their intentions, becoming a Democratic Party candidate that meets the expectations of public sentiment is the duty and role of those who pass the Democratic Party primary," and said, "Without losing my original intention, I will humbly uphold the will of the sovereign and restore the pride of Buk-gu and the fallen democracy through victory in the general election."

Meanwhile, Jeong Junho, who passed the Democratic Party primary on the 21st, graduated from Dongshin High School in Gwangju and Seoul National University’s Department of Law and has worked as a lawyer. He has served as the Democratic Party candidate for the 20th National Assembly election in Buk-gu Gap, Gwangju, chairman of the Democratic Party Buk-gu Gap regional committee, secretary-general of the Hong Namsun Lawyer Memorial Project Association, legal officer at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and the inaugural head of the Legal Center of the Citizens’ Coalition for Consumer Sovereignty.
