Gwanak-gu Begins Leasing 'Eco-Friendly Urban Gardens'
Recruitment of 1,059 Urban Garden Plots Until February 29, Open to Gwanak-gu Residents Aged 18+ or Representatives of Gwanak-gu Educational Institutions... Operated as an Eco-Friendly Garden Using '3No Farming Method' for Safe Food Production and Harvest Joy
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting users for its eco-friendly urban garden until the 29th of this month.
Now in its 9th year, the Gwanak urban garden is an eco-friendly garden operated under the ‘3-No Farming Method,’ which prohibits ▲synthetic pesticides ▲chemical fertilizers ▲chemical materials. It aims to preserve the environment while producing safe agricultural products, earning great support from residents.
The publicly recruited garden plots total 1,059 plots (1 plot = approximately 10㎡) and are located at six sites: ▲Gang Gam-chan Garden ▲Nakseongdae Garden ▲Seorim-dong 1 & 2 Gardens ▲Cheongryongsan Garden ▲Chunghyo Garden ▲Samsung-dong Gwanak Urban Agriculture Park.
Winners can cultivate their designated plots from March 22 to November 30, with a usage fee of 55,000 KRW per plot. However, educational institutions in Gwanak-gu are allowed to cultivate free of charge.
Additionally, the district will provide compost and simple farming tools such as hoes free of charge for the first time only. Agricultural tools necessary for cultivation, including ▲agricultural water ▲watering cans ▲shovels ▲rakes, will be kept on-site at the gardens at all times.
Furthermore, after the garden opens, urban agriculture education will be offered for beginner farmers so that any Gwanak resident can become an urban farmer.
Anyone aged 18 or older residing in Gwanak-gu or representatives of educational institutions in Gwanak-gu (▲daycare centers ▲kindergartens ▲elementary, middle, and high schools) can apply. However, applications are limited to one plot per household (or group).
Residents wishing to apply can do so through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System.
On March 4, users will be selected through a random computerized lottery. The results will be announced on the district office website and winners will be notified individually via text message.
For more detailed information, please refer to the announcement posted on the Gwanak-gu Office website.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I hope the eco-friendly urban garden becomes a place where families can grow their own food, experience the joy of harvest, and foster harmony through communication with neighbors. In particular, I ask for the interest and participation of residents and local educational institutions so that children can appreciate the joy of harvesting and the importance of environmental conservation through this opportunity.”
