Former Announcer Yang Jong-a to Challenge Gwangju Buk-gu Eul District Wearing People Power Party Colors
Recruitment of Talent in the Culture and Arts Sector
Yang Jong-ah, former announcer of Gwangju MBC and CEO of Hanppyeom Classic, is challenging for the Buk-gu (Eul) district of Gwangju Metropolitan City under the People Power Party.
The People Power Party's Talent Recruitment Committee held a welcoming ceremony on the morning of the 22nd at the central party office's main conference room in Yeouido, Seoul, announcing the recruitment of Yang Jong-ah, a representative in the culture and arts sector.
Party leadership, including Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon and Talent Recruitment Committee Chairman Lee Cheol-gyu, attended to welcome former announcer Yang.
Chairman Han Dong-hoon said, “Representative Yang Jong-ah is considering running in Honam, a region where our People Power Party had not expected much in the past,” adding, “The People Power Party has firmly given up on giving up Honam. We want to be loved in Honam and win seats in constituencies there. We will work harder.”
He continued, “Based on Representative Yang’s life experience, career, and determination, I expect her to surely win for the people,” promising, “We will do our best to support her.”
Representative Yang said, “After three visits, I have joined the People Power Party today,” adding, “When I received the recruitment offer, I could not help but have concerns because I was born and raised in Gwangju, spent my school years there, and worked in broadcasting. The voices around me, including my family, were full of worries and concerns.”
She continued, “When I heard questions like whether I could even live in Gwangju in the future, it strengthened my resolve to step forward. I wanted to change the political structure where, if not the Democratic Party, such voices of concern must be heard in Gwangju, and I felt it was a conviction that it must be changed.”
She added, “Now, Gwangju must definitely overcome the Democratic Party’s monopoly structure. I really want to break the structure where the Democratic Party holds Gwangju and Honam hostage and only uses Gwangju. Only then can Gwangju, Honam, and Korea develop,” emphasizing, “I did not accept the offer with any grand political conviction. I want to play a small but proper role in realizing politics of compromise, creating visions within that compromise, and politics of cooperation rather than conflict and criticism.”
