"Record Tax Revenue Shortfall..." Jongno-gu Launches Comprehensive Measures to Strengthen Revenue Collection
Formation of Comprehensive Task Force Led by Deputy District Mayor
Jongno-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 22nd that it has established the '2024 Comprehensive Plan for Revenue Collection' and will strengthen collection activities. This is to secure stable revenue and support smooth district administration as local governments face tight budgets due to unprecedented tax revenue shortfalls this year.
This year's target amount includes 146.7 billion KRW in local taxes, 63.1 billion KRW in non-tax revenue, and 289.2 billion KRW in dependent resources, totaling 499 billion KRW in the general account, as well as 962.4 billion KRW in local taxes collected on behalf of Seoul Metropolitan City.
Mayor Jeong Munheon formed a comprehensive task force (three teams) led by the deputy mayor and decided to focus on providing taxpayer payment convenience policies, devising measures to improve collection rates within deadlines, diversifying tax audits and source discovery, strengthening collection activities against high-value habitual delinquents, and analyzing collection performance by department for non-tax revenue. They plan to hold related parties' strategy meetings to discuss ways to achieve targets and improve collection rates, making efforts on multiple fronts.
Additionally, Jongno-gu will devote full efforts throughout the year to provide tax administration services that residents can feel and be satisfied with.
Last year, Jongno-gu collected 215.4 billion KRW in local taxes and non-tax revenue, exceeding the target by 9.7 billion KRW. The surplus will be included in this year's expenditure budget and evenly invested in various projects for the residents of Jongno-gu.
