Gyeonggi-do Establishes One-Stop Support System for Semiconductor Cluster Infrastructure
Gyeonggi Province is launching a close support system to expand stable infrastructure so that large-scale semiconductor factory production plans within the province can proceed without disruption.
On the 22nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that starting from March, it plans to establish a permanent communication channel with the relevant city and county departments and companies involved in semiconductor industrial complexes currently being developed or planned, to build a close cooperative system.
Gyeonggi Province will also strengthen support such as preliminary reviews and consulting to shorten the permit approval period. In addition, as demand for not only semiconductor memory but also artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors is expected to increase, the province will take proactive and continuous support measures in response to the semiconductor market recovery.
Song Eun-sil, head of the Semiconductor Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, explained the background of establishing the support system, saying, "Securing stable infrastructure for semiconductor factories is an essential element of core competitiveness for the semiconductor industry. Infrastructure, like manufacturing lines, requires large-scale investment and long periods for permits, so active policy will and institutional support are more important than anything else."
Meanwhile, on the 31st of last month, Gyeonggi Province reviewed and approved the industrial complex plans for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the Pyeongtaek Advanced Complex Industrial Park.
With plans such as site adjustment for the substation in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster general industrial complex and expansion of gas supply facilities passing the committee, it has become possible to establish infrastructure such as power supply, aiming for factory operation in May 2027.
