There are players who perform well in specific tournaments and on specific courses.
At the Honda LPGA Thailand, Yang Hee-young is the 'king.' Out of her five total wins on the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour, she has claimed three victories at this tournament. She topped the leaderboard in 2015, 2017, and 2019. She is the tournament's most frequent winner. Yang Hee-young is set to compete once again on the Thailand stage. From the 22nd for four days, she will participate in the Honda LPGA Thailand (total prize money $1.7 million) held at the Siam Country Club Old Course (par 72, 6,576 yards) in Chonburi, Thailand.
This is the first tournament marking the resumption of the LPGA Tour's 'Asian Swing' after four weeks. Starting with the Thailand tournament, the swing continues with the HSBC Women's World Championship (Singapore) and the Blue Bay LPGA (China). A total of 72 players will compete in the Honda LPGA Thailand. The winner will be decided through 72 holes of stroke play without a cut-off.
World No. 15 Yang Hee-young needs a strong performance in this tournament. To participate in the Paris Olympics this August, she must accumulate ranking points. This is her second consecutive tournament appearance following last week's LET (Ladies European Tour) Aramco Saudi Ladies International (total prize money $5 million) held in Saudi Arabia. She finished tied for 18th in that event.
Korea is represented by world No. 6 Ko Jin-young and No. 9 Kim Hyo-joo. Ko Jin-young is returning to the LPGA Tour after about three months since withdrawing from the CME Group Tour Championship, the season finale, last November. Attention is on how much Ko Jin-young has recovered from last season's injuries. Kim Hyo-joo also picked up her golf clubs for the first time in a regular tournament this season since last year's Tour Championship. Additionally, Yu Hae-ran, Kim Ha-rim, Choi Hye-jin, Kim Se-young, Ji Eun-hee, and Lee Mi-hyang are also participating.
