U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he exchanged views with Chinese President Xi Jinping during their summit on major international issues, including Taiwan, North Korea, and Iran’s nuclear program.
According to Reuters on May 15 (local time), after concluding his visit to China and departing for home, President Trump told reporters, “I had extensive discussions with President Xi on the Taiwan issue,” adding, “I do not believe there is a dispute with China.”
However, President Trump drew a clear line on the Taiwan issue, emphasizing, “I did not make any promises.”
President Trump also revealed that he discussed the North Korea issue with President Xi during the summit.
Regarding the case of Jimmy Lai, a Hong Kong journalist known for his anti-China stance, President Trump said, “President Xi mentioned that he is seriously considering Lai’s release.”
