Korea Zinc to Calculate Carbon Footprint of Copper, Zinc, and Silver... "Advancing ESG"
3rd Year of Sustainable Management Committee Operation
Sharing Last Year's ESG Achievements and Discussing This Year's Strategy
Korea Zinc announced on the 20th that it will designate this year as the inaugural year for ESG advancement and take the first step by calculating the carbon footprint of each product for carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Korea Zinc Sustainability Management Committee reviewed the company's ESG activities from last year and discussed the main plans for the Sustainability Management Committee in 2024 at the first meeting held the day before.
The main agenda items included ▲ carbon neutrality by 2050 ▲ advancement of ESG management ▲ upgrading ESG evaluation ratings in 2024 ▲ social contribution activities ▲ and plans to promote sustainable environmental and safety management.
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Korea Zinc plans to calculate the life cycle-based carbon footprint for zinc, silver, and copper products produced last year, and this year, expand this to include lead, gold, and semiconductor sulfuric acid.
The carbon footprint refers to the total amount of carbon dioxide directly and indirectly generated by individuals or organizations during activities or the production and consumption of goods.
In addition, the company plans to further specify the carbon neutrality report and carbon neutrality measures.

Furthermore, Korea Zinc will advance supply chain management, human rights management systems, responsible minerals reporting, and governance establishment. They plan to analyze and study the responses to domestic and international ESG rating agencies from last year, establish evaluation plans for 2024, and strategically respond to improve scores and ratings. They will also continue to focus on environmental and safety aspects, such as building an integrated system for process safety management and implementing and strengthening safety and health management systems.
In the social contribution sector, the direction for social contribution activities in 2024 was discussed. There was a suggestion to carry out social contribution activities that create synergy between existing smelting operations and new business areas represented by Troika Drive.
