Onshinhyeop Selects 3 Winners for Digital Journalism Innovation Awards
The Korea Online News Association announced the three winning works of the '1st Digital Journalism Innovation Awards' on the 15th.
In the 'Digital Content Category,' the grand prize was awarded to Kyunghyang Shinmun's special project "27 Years Last Place, Gender Wage Gap." The recipients are Lim Ah-young, Flat Team Leader; Hwang Kyung-sang, Data Journalism Team Leader; reporters Bae Moon-gyu, Lee Soo-min, Park Chae-um (all from the Flat Team); reporters Lee Ah-reum and Yoo Sun-hee (both from the Data Journalism Team); and reporter Jo Hyung-guk (Social Affairs Department), totaling eight people.
The judging committee evaluated, "Not only does it have significant social impact in terms of content, but it also embodies the essence of data journalism through interactive news that readers can experience."
The Dong-A Ilbo's special project "Drift: Wandering on the Edge of Life and Death," which competed closely with the grand prize winner, received the Judges' Special Award. The recipients are developers Lim Sang-ah and Lim Hee-rae; reporters Wi Eun-ji and Hong Jin-hwan (both from the DX Headquarters Strategy Team); reporters Jo Geon-hee and Lee Sang-hwan (Social Affairs Department); reporter Song Hye-mi (Economic Department); and reporter Lee Ji-yoon (International Department), totaling eight people.
In the Digital Service & Business Category, the grand prize was awarded to JoongAng Ilbo's "The Joongang Plus," the country's first full-scale paid subscription service. The grand prize goes to Director Lee Hak-jin (Mobile Service Headquarters Strategy & Business Bureau), who played a key role in strategy development, content marketing, and subscriber expansion for this service.
Professor Yoo Hong-sik of Chung-Ang University, who served as the chair of the judging committee, said, "Among the many high-quality entries created through the collaboration of journalists and IT personnel, we could see the potential for legacy media to overcome considerable difficulties faced in digital innovation."
This year, the newly established Digital Journalism Innovation Awards received 12 entries in the Digital Content Category and 12 entries in the Digital Service & Business Category.

Each grand prize winner will receive a plaque and a prize of 5 million KRW, and the Judges' Special Award recipients will receive a plaque and a prize of 3 million KRW. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on February 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Ivy Room on the 19th floor of the President Hotel, Euljiro, Jung-gu, Seoul.
