View original imageIt was reported on the 7th that Hwang Geon-il, former Executive Director of the World Bank (WB) (photo), has been nominated as a new member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Korea.
The Financial Services Commission is said to have recommended former Executive Director Hwang to fill the vacancy created when former member Park Chun-seop moved to the Presidential Office as Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs.
Born in 1961, Hwang entered public service by passing the 31st Administrative Examination and served as head of the Foreign Exchange System Innovation Team, Policy Planning Officer, Secretary to the Minister, Director of International Financial Policy Bureau, Director of International Finance Bureau, and First Grade International Economic Management Officer at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

From 2018, he served as an Executive Director of the WB for two years. He graduated from Daedong High School in Busan and Yonsei University with a degree in Economics, and earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon Graduate School in the United States.
