While tracking the suspects, it was confirmed that Han was arrested by Montenegrin police at Podgorica Airport, Montenegro, on March 23. Subsequently, a criminal extradition request was made to Montenegrin authorities. At the time, Han was arrested by local police while attempting to leave for the United Arab Emirates using a forged Costa Rican passport.
A Ministry of Justice official stated, "After filing the criminal extradition request, we conducted a local business trip to Montenegro, held working-level consultations, and submitted opinions, closely cooperating with Montenegrin authorities to make efforts for the repatriation of the suspect. As a result, we were able to repatriate suspect Han to Korea." The official added, "We express our gratitude to the Montenegrin authorities who cooperated in the repatriation, and we will do our best to ensure that Kwon Do-hyung, a major suspect related to this case, can also be repatriated to Korea."
