Now in its second year, this exhibition is jointly hosted by the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), and the state-owned defense company SAMI. A total of over 750 defense companies from 45 countries are participating, presenting a wide range of technologies from ground weapon systems to space defense sectors.
Hyundai Rotem will lead sales activities to expand its market presence with its lineup of ground unmanned platforms. For the Middle East market debut, it will exhibit full-scale mockups of a multipurpose unmanned vehicle, defense drones, and a desert-colored Middle East-type multipurpose unmanned vehicle.
Recently, unmanned system technology has been recognized as a key area to prepare for future battlefield environments in the global defense market. Due to the worldwide low birthrate and aging population reducing troop resources, advanced unmanned equipment incorporating Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly emerging as an alternative to minimize troop casualties.
The Hyundai Rotem multipurpose unmanned vehicle (HR-SHERPA) has scalability that allows it to be used in various operations and missions. It can transport wounded soldiers, ammunition, and military gear, or be equipped with high-speed charging devices and remote weapon systems to perform multiple roles such as surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The Middle East-type multipurpose unmanned vehicle exhibited this time will be equipped with LIG Nex1’s anti-tank guided missile.
A Hyundai Rotem official said, "We will do our best to showcase Hyundai Rotem’s excellent unmanned system technology to the world, centered on the multipurpose unmanned vehicle, which has been recognized for its performance and technology through deployment in current army operations, various combat experiments, and pilot operations."
