Exports Plummet Due to Honghae Issue... 7,929 Units → 226 Units
Renault Korea Motors' sales in January this year fell below 2,000 units, plummeting to one-fifth of the previous year's level. The company explained that the 'Red Sea risk' caused by the Yemeni Houthi rebels' attack on ships, which blocked passage through the Suez Canal, had a significant impact.
On the 1st, Renault Korea announced that it achieved total sales of 1,871 units in January, with 1,645 units sold domestically and 226 units exported. This represents a sharp decline of 81.4% compared to the same month last year.
Renault Korea stated, "Due to recent logistics delays caused by instability in Red Sea shipping routes, the scheduled export vehicle shipments could not be carried out on the planned dates." In fact, only 226 vehicles were exported in January, including 185 QM6 units and 41 XM3 units. This is a 97.1% decrease compared to the 7,929 units exported in January last year.
Domestic vehicle sales performed somewhat better. A total of 1,645 units were sold, down 22.3% from the same month last year. Most vehicle sales declined. The best-selling XM3 sold 974 units, a 4.4% decrease compared to January last year. Sales of the SM6 (94 units, -57.3%) and QM6 (-34.2%) also fell. About 70% (405 units) of QM6 sales were LPG vehicles.
However, supported by the growing popularity of hybrids, the 'XM3 E-Tech Hybrid' sold a total of 566 units, marking a 57.2% increase compared to the same month last year. As of the end of last month, there were about 620 vehicles waiting for delivery.
