Masters Showcase Skills to Popularize Intangible Heritage
The Cultural Heritage Administration's National Intangible Heritage Center and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on the 1st that they will hold the 'National Intangible Heritage Public Event' to celebrate the Gapjin Year (甲辰年) Lunar New Year. To popularize intangible heritage and promote its preservation and transmission, practitioners will demonstrate their skills.
The first public event is Wido Ttibae Nori on the 12th, held in Daeri Village, Wido-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeonbuk Province. Boats made of straw are floated to pray for the village's peace, longevity, and abundant harvest. In Gurye-gun, Jeonnam Province, Gurye Jansu Nongak (12th) is performed to ward off evil and pray for prosperity and blessings, and in Jukrim Village, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam Province, the large-scale communal ritual Namhaean Byeolsingut (14th-15th) takes place.

On Jeongwol Daeboreum, the Gwangju Chilseok Gossaum Nori will be held at the Gwangju Gossaum Nori Theme Park (23rd-25th), Gangneung Nongak at the Gangneung Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival venue (24th), Imsil Pilbong Nongak in Pilbong Gut Village, Imsil-gun (24th), Donghaean Byeolsingut at the temporary stage on Chilam-ri breakwater (24th-29th), and Yeongsan Soemori Daegi at the National Intangible Heritage Playground (27th-March 1st).
