Homeplus Mega Food Market Tailored to 'Customer Flow', Food Sales Up 30% in 2 Years Since Launch
Food Category Sales Share 70%
Effect of Online Sales and Customer Increase Also Seen
Homeplus announced on the 1st that sales at its 'Mega Food Market' stores, launched in February 2022, have increased by an average of more than 30% compared to before the renovation.
The sales growth was driven by fresh foods and ready-to-eat products. After the renovation, sales of grocery items grew, accounting for 70% of total sales as of the end of December last year. The company analyzed that the attempt to reorganize the seller-centered layout into a 'display most convenient for customers' and a 'sensory-stimulating layout' yielded results.

It is also analyzed that the strategy of placing food stores such as deli and bakery at the front entrance and implementing a collection display of specialized stores was effective. Sales by item at major stores rose significantly compared to three years ago, with Gangdong branch's deli 'Food To Go' and Seongseo branch's ready meals and meal kits 'Dining Street' recording more than double the growth rate. Representative achievements include Uijeongbu branch bakery 'Montblancje' up 55%, Gangseo branch fruits and livestock 40%, Ganseok branch liquor 'The Wine Cellar' 26%, and Banghak branch 'Ramen Museum' 40%.
Online sales and customer traffic also increased. As consumers who preferred online shopping during COVID-19 returned to offline stores, the number of customers in their 20s and 30s at Mega Food Market in January this year jumped by a remarkable 120% compared to the same month three years ago. Additionally, by offering same-day delivery and other services, online sales and customer traffic in January also increased by 35% and 25%, respectively, compared to three years ago.
