Yeongsangang Cheong, Expansion of Water Supply and Sewerage Infrastructure in Vulnerable Areas
The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office will expand water supply and sewage infrastructure in vulnerable areas for drinking water and sewage facilities. A total of 627.1 billion KRW will be allocated to 358 facilities.
The main projects include the renovation of aging water purification plants and water supply networks, development of island drinking water sources, establishment of small-scale biological treatment at water purification plants, installation of sewage treatment plants, and maintenance of sewage pipelines.
In particular, to ensure a stable supply of drinking water in drought-prone island areas, 41.7 billion KRW will be provided to facilitate the early installation of underwater pipelines and seawater desalination facilities.
A pilot project will be promoted to connect regional and local water supply systems to mountain villages in water source areas, which are blind spots in water welfare, to ensure that local residents have no inconvenience in drinking water and to stabilize their livelihoods.
Additionally, 174.5 billion KRW will be invested in installing sewage treatment plants in vulnerable rural and fishing villages, where the sewage coverage rate is significantly lower than in urban areas, to realize universal environmental welfare.
To prepare for localized heavy rainfall, 69.5 billion KRW will be invested in urban flood response projects to prevent environmental disasters.
