Goheung-gun, Standing Tall as Korea's No.1 Destination for Returning Farmers and Rural Migration

Hall of Fame Rural Return and Migration City Category '6 Consecutive Years Awarded'

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) is once again proving its excellence in the field of returning to farming and rural living, continuing its nationwide reputation.

According to the county, it recently achieved the remarkable feat of winning the ‘2024 Korea Brand Hall of Fame’ award in the returning to farming and rural living city category for six consecutive years since 2019, and it is the only county to do so.

The Industrial Policy Research Institute (IPS) selected brands by evaluating management performance, brand value, customer satisfaction, marketing, and communication for local governments and companies nationwide.

Goheung-gun received high evaluations for its diverse and differentiated policies such as attracting returnees to farming and fishing villages, operating the Returning to Farming and Rural Living Happiness School, holding explanatory meetings on returning to hometowns and rural living visiting cities, and promoting post-management monitoring by professional staff residing in farming and rural returnee communities.

Goheung-gun, which has been achieving remarkable results every year in the field of returning to farming and rural living, is promoting projects such as ▲development of residential sites and rental housing by region for urban residents’ 5-to-2 rural living (500 units by 2026) ▲support for repair costs of farmhouses for returnees to farming and rural living ▲the youth ‘Return Goheung’ project ▲public + corporate job support projects.

Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, said, “With pride and responsibility as the number one place for returning to farming and rural living, we will continue a vigorous journey with the residents to establish a foundation for a population of 100,000 in Goheung.”

Meanwhile, Goheung-gun has been recognized externally as a center for returning to farming and rural living, ranking first for three consecutive years in the comprehensive evaluation of returning to farming and rural living by Jeollanam-do, and being selected as the ‘Best’ institution nationwide in the 2023 Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ performance evaluation for attracting returnees to farming and rural living.
