Gyeonggi-do Caught 7,768 Illegal Activities in Development Restriction Zones Last Year... 55% Increase Compared to Previous Year
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it detected 7,768 cases of illegal activities within the Greenbelt area last year. This represents a 55% increase compared to 5,013 cases in 2022.
Of the detected cases, 3,189 cases, accounting for 41%, have been completed with demolition and restoration to the original state. The remaining 4,579 cases are undergoing administrative measures such as correction orders and imposition of enforcement fines.
By city and county, Namyangju-si had the highest number with 2,035 cases, followed by Goyang-si with 1,104 cases, Siheung-si with 804 cases, Uiwang-si with 534 cases, and Hwaseong-si with 516 cases.
Among the major detected cases, City A was found to have illegally changed farmland into a storage yard through aerial photo analysis, and administrative actions such as imposition of enforcement fines are underway.
City B detected a case where the local agricultural cooperative illegally changed the use of one-third of a 503㎡ agricultural machinery storage warehouse into offices, break rooms, and restrooms through structural modifications. This was uncovered through a joint special inspection by the province and city/county, and restoration measures are in progress.
City C detected cases where buildings (warehouses) or storage yards were installed in inaccessible forest areas without permits or notifications through drone footage, and demolition and restoration measures are currently underway.
Gyeonggi Province analyzed that the reason for the significant increase in detected illegal activities in the Greenbelt area compared to 2022 was due to systematic and efficient strengthening of crackdowns, including early interpretation of aerial photos and on-site investigations, drone-based enforcement, joint inspections focused on the field by the province and city/county, preparation of integrated guidelines for illegal activity crackdowns, and joint training (workshops) for officials in charge of the Greenbelt area.

Kim Su-hyung, Director of the Regional Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "The Greenbelt areas in Gyeonggi Province have convenient transportation and low rent, which leads to many illegal activities.
