Prosecution Seeks 1-Year Prison Sentence for Defendant Accused of Killing Cat in Gimhae
The prosecution has requested a one-year prison sentence for a man in his 30s accused of throwing two cats out of a window, causing their deaths.
On the 19th, the prosecution made this request to the court during a trial held at the Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam, presided over by Criminal Division 6.
The defense attorney for defendant Mr. A argued, "The incident occurred at 4 a.m., and although a witness's initial statement mentioned hearing a female voice, the defendant's voice is completely different from that of a woman. There is no witness who directly testified that the defendant threw the cats, and considering the victim's statements have been inconsistent, it is difficult to conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant threw the animals he was raising," asserting innocence.
Earlier, Mr. A was accused of throwing two cats he was raising out of a window on the 12th floor of an officetel in Nae-dong, Gimhae City, at around 4:40 a.m. on June 24 of last year, with about a two-minute interval between the throws, resulting in their deaths.
The cats fell approximately 42 meters down in front of a convenience store on the first floor and died shortly afterward. Citizens who witnessed the incident reported it to the police.
