Kim Sung-jin, 7th Pledge Keyword of Gwangju Gwangsan Preliminary Candidate: 'Middle-aged and Older Adults'
Alleviating Poverty Crisis, Family Breakdown, and Elderly Poverty Issues
Dense Safety Net for Solitary Deaths... Efforts for Preventive Measures Too
Kim Seong-jin, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for the Gwangsan-gu (Eul) district of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced his seventh pledge. It is the ‘Three-piece Support Set for Middle-aged and Older Adults.’
Candidate Kim said, “Middle-aged and older adults are the backbone of household finances, and if they do not collapse, neither will families nor the nation,” adding, “Through the Three-piece Support Set for Middle-aged and Older Adults, we will alleviate the poverty crisis among middle-aged people caused by economic downturns, family breakdowns, and furthermore, future elderly poverty issues.”
He plans to introduce the ‘Nareulchaeum Deduction’ for re-employed middle-aged adults to support asset formation, where the government will match a certain amount for low-income middle-aged individuals who succeed in reemployment to help them accumulate a lump sum.
He continued, “We will introduce the ‘Restart Allowance’ for middle-aged households in crisis due to unemployment or business closure to provide a stepping stone for recovery,” and stated, “The burdens carried by middle-aged people, such as debt repayment and children’s education expenses, are significant. We will provide emergency support for a certain period to middle-aged households with dependents facing unemployment or business closure to ease their burdens.”
He also announced measures regarding the issue of solitary deaths among middle-aged people, which has recently emerged as a social problem.
Candidate Kim said, “According to recent academic data, solitary deaths are highest among people in their 50s, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s ‘2022 Solitary Death Survey’ also showed that solitary deaths accounted for the largest proportion among those in their 50s and 60s. In particular, Gwangju is among the top regions with a higher proportion of solitary deaths compared to the national average,” adding, “We will establish a thorough safety net to prevent solitary deaths among middle-aged and older adults.”
