Incheon City Increases 'Standing on One's Own' Youth Independence Allowance to 500,000 KRW per Month
Incheon City announced on the 16th that it will increase the self-reliance allowance paid to young adults who have turned 18 and whose protection has ended in child welfare facilities or foster families from this year, raising it by 100,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW per month.
The self-reliance allowance can be received for five years from the time protection ends, with the necessary budget shared 80% by the national government and 20% by the city government.
Youth whose protection has ended in child welfare facilities and foster families can also receive a lump sum self-reliance settlement fund of 10 million KRW, supported by the budgets of the city and district/county. Last year, 521 people in Incheon received the self-reliance allowance, and 59 received the self-reliance settlement fund.
Meanwhile, in Incheon, about 70 young people enter society each year and prepare for independent living. The city is promoting the 'In(pum) Project' to provide services tailored to the needs of youth preparing for self-reliance.
'In(pum)' means 'the embrace of Incheon,' reflecting the intention for Incheon City and its citizens to join forces to support youth preparing for independence like a parent's embrace. The In(pum) Project offers integrated services covering all aspects of life through 21 programs in six areas: independent living, housing stability, psychological and emotional support, employment and career support, pre-support for protection termination, and establishment of a self-reliance foundation.
